Festival Season Is In Full Swing

With April underway, festival season is in full swing. April brings us the Pontchatoula Strawberry Festival, French Quarter Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and much more.

CHARLOTTE: French Quarter Festival comes second weekend in April.  Being that I live in the French Quarter,  this is one of our favorite weekends.  We turn on the bubble machine on our balcony and watch the kids have a blast on our corner.  Usually on Thursday night we take advantage of the smaller crowds and bring the kids for an evening picnic at Jackson Square.

Some of our favorites to eat are Muriels, the Cochon de lait po-boy, and the BBQ Shrimp po-boy.  Of course my kids can’t leave without a snowball.  On Saturday, my husband and I like to have an adult day but on Sunday, we have another family picnic at The Mint and enjoy boiled crawfish.

The kids love to dance to the music and of course,

once again, have to have a snowball.  I’m really excited about some of the new food vendors this year and I can’t wait to hear the performers and kick off this festival season! Hope to see you there this weekend.

REBECCA: Although it is at the end of the month, my favorite is the arrival of Jazz Fest. Every year it is held on the last weekend of April and the 1st weekend of May. Growing up it always signaled the end of the school year, summer is just around the corner, and a great day to hang out with friends.

Long gone are the days where we would have to meet at the flagpole to find anyone. Now my routine is to set up camp, usually at the Gentilly stage near the giant Oak Tree just before lunch. Then I make my first loop collecting my families favorite lunch items along the way: Natchitoches Meat Pies, Fried Chicken, Cochon De Lait, Crawfish Bread, Summer Rolls, and of course some Rosemint Tea with Honey. Fully loaded we settle in to our camp and enjoy an afternoon of great music, people watching and dancing. We do venture out between acts to see the local artists, other acts, heritage tents, and of course graze on more food. The kids area has some great performers and fun activities to explore. All in all it is a great day. Hope to see you at the fairgrounds this month!
